Explanation / Answer

List project stakeholders in information technology project (Tech, end user, leadership etc) and describe their involvement with IT project.

The meaning of the title and the hierarchy of positions depends completely on the company. Below are the common stakeholders and along with their role in IT project

Tech :

Business Analyst : involved in the definition, requirements gathering, and design phases of a pqroject.

Developer/programmer - This person is in charge of doing all the development work (writing the code or developing screens). In some project based on complexity this role is further split into Visualization engineer (Develops visuals), Data engineer (writes backend SQL code and designs the table to store data), Data Scientist (analytics person who provides insights from the data by building advanced models)

Database adminstrator(DBA) - a specialized person whose job is to install databases and constantly monitor the performance of database

Network architect - this person is responsible for designing and setting up the whole company network. He `

network engineer - this team supports the network and gets guidance from network architect

QA tester : this role is becoming less relevant now as developer is supposed to all testing. But the QA testers is supposed to write all test cases and once he gets the code he is supposed to execute all the test cases. Only after all test cases are passed, the new program is moved further

Release Manager : Big companies have this role. This person prepares the plan and ensures/reveiws any new deployment in production environment

Leadership

Project Leader/Delivery lead : responsible for managing (including assigning) resources for both operations and projects. is the entry point for the project manager for resources and operational/contract activities. also the escalation point

Project manager : responsible for the initiation and delivery of project

If the size of the client and/or business volume requires, sometimes a senior delivery lead may be introduced

End User

Direct consumer : This can be consumer like you and me who will start using the program developed by IT project. Ex: Amazon app developed by Amazon IT Team

Indirect consumer : In this case the IT project final output is passed to the stakeholder. This stakeholder then takes this output and gives it to his company for using it. ex : Amazon app developed by another company. Representative from amazon will take this app to his management and then take a decision on what needs to be done with this outcome

list and describe some specific activities , ideas and directives that could be used by a project manager to motivate and manage IT project stakhholders

What could your team do if certain stakeholders refused to contribute and co-operate with IT project goals and projects

Most of the time this problems comes with

Programmer or Analyst : if the programmer or analyst is not willing to work, then it is important to understand the root cause of the issue.
If co-operation is not happening due
- Heavy work load : It is important that IT project manage check why the resources is overloaded. HE should allocate the work properly. But if the load is due to lack of skill, then proper training and guidance should be arranged
- Personal or Attitude problem : In this case it is better the IT project manager takes the help of HR Team to help the person or take appropriate action

Support Team:
The support team like network team or DBA can be busy with many tasks. This migth impact the progress of the project. It is important that all leadership stakeholders are looped in and correct expectation are setup

Leadership:
Sometimes it is possible that leadership team might not be available for meeting when the milestone completion is marked in IT project goals. In such a case it is important that frequent communication happens to ascertain that meeting is on track and optional dates should be kept ready by the project manager.

Which stakeholder would cause the most trouble for an IT project manager and why? Discuss dealing with difficult people

We discussed about internal stakholders (programmer and support team above). But sometimes it is possible that the client can be the most difficult person to deal with. He might not be happy with the product or keeping on changing his/her requirements or he might not co-operate due to some other reasons.

It is important that all communications are documented and clear plan set up on the weekly goals that will be achieved. Also the risks should be called out.

Project manager(PM) should make sure that they loop in buffer time in the plan to handle any unknown issues. Also looping in leadership might be needed if client behavious can put the project at risk and the PM has tried all the best possible solutions.
