Affirmative action is also known as reservation in India and positive action in the UK. Affirmative actions sort to achieve goals that bridges inequalities and promotes diversity.

Yes, I feel that affirmative action is a good way to remedy past discrimination as it helps balance out the workforce onto a point but doesnot wipe away the past completely. Past discrimination can mean many different things and cannot be called a single concept.

For example: If a person proves that he was denied a job on account of racism, the court's order to hire that person is a affirmative action . The person is being hired to remedy the past discrimination.
