P.009 (a) What is the angular speed with respect to the Earth's rotation axis of a person standing at the equator? rad/s (b) What is the angular speed with respect to the Earth's rotation axis of a person standing at a latitude of 25°? rad/s Need Help? Read it Chat About t -1 points My Notes I GioCP28. P.012 An adult is riding on a carousel and finds that he is feeling a bit nauseated. He then decides to move from the outer edge of the carousel to a point a distance r2 from the center so that his linear speed is reduced by a factor of 2.4. If the carousel has a constant angular speed of 1.0 rad/s and a radius of 4.3 m, what is r2?

Explanation / Answer

answer: w = v/r

so 1 = v1/4.3

v1=4.3

that will give you the linear velocity 1. afterwards divide that number by 2.4 because v2 is 2.4times smaller than v1.

4.3/2.4=1.792

then plug the numbers back into w=v/r

1 = v2(which you just found) / r2(what you are solving for)

1=1.792/r2

r2=
