Question

Imagine that you work in the HR department of the NOLA Toy Company, based in New Orleans. Over the past 6 months, the company president, Jason O’Connor, has noticed that an increasing number of the company’s staff has been coming to work late (this does not include you). The president has asked you to send a memo to all employees telling them to cut it out and start getting to work on time or else.

Write a memo to the staff of NOLA Toy Company in which you convey Mr. O’Connor’s message – but do so in a courteous, professional manner. (Make sure you follow the format laid out in the “Professional Memos” video you watched.) Your memo to NOLA employees should be designed to be distributed in hard copy, not sent as an e-mail.

Your memo must include, at the very least. a statement on the importance of being on time, a table or graph that explains the trend of tardiness, and recommendations on ways for employees to make sure they get to work on time. You will need the following information for this memo:

July: 3% of employees were late at least 5 times

August: 10% of employees were late at least 5 times

September: 20% of employees were late at least 5 times

October: 25% of employees were late at least 5 times

November: 30% of employees were late at least 5 times

December: 50% of employees were late at least 5 times

NOLA Toy Company’s working hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Top Excuses for Being Late:

            Subway train was late

            Overslept

            Bad weather

Drove in and got caught in traffic

Subject: Late coming, an alarming issue

It is to bring to your notice that the organization is witnessing a very grave issue which is violating the organizational policies to quite an extent. I would like to focus on the fact that employees are coming late to office and this is turning out to be a alarming issue maintaining the basic hygiene of the organization.

The organization does not support employees working till late and hence promote employees to be within time which is very important because the organization has certain protocols to follow which should be considered as important by all. This is not happening for the last few months and the curve that we see is rising. If we go by the monthly data from July we will see that individuals coming in late at least 5 times have increased from a mere 3% to a mammoth 50% and we have received various reasons for the same.

I would like to mention here in this context that the irganizationnis will not be accepting such an incident frequently, we understand that there can be emergency situations and we will consider the same to some extent but we also have to maintain the organization policies hence I would request you to be a bit more serious regarding the same and ensure that such activities are not repeated and I believe we can do it.

Thanks,

Bradley Dampier
