Question

Many would argue that the effective use of information systems is a competitive requirement for businesses today. Businesses rely on an array of technology systems in order to function on a day-to-day basis. Because of the different operational roles within a business different functional areas have different requirements for these systems. This can be a unified system or a collection of more specific applications. In this week’s discussion will be examining how these parts work together and how an organization can insure that all functional roles understand what the others are doing.

Considering this please address the following prompts in your discussion:

Why do all the business units in an organization that uses technology need to be involved in developing management information systems?

How does that relate to the goal that a “knowledge-management repository” can be used throughout the organization?

Explanation / Answer

Answer)

Information Technology is must needed for every business and organization of every type and size. We all understand the importance of using information systems is a competitive requirement for businesses today. Businesses will function based on the technology of the IT on a day-to-day basis. Now we have to understand about the different operational roles that run relatively independent and have different requirements. Management information system(s) does refer to the collection of data and support from hardware and software which collects the information, processes the information, stores the information and gathers meaning from the information that is collected and stored. MIS helps managers in making management decisions to increase the business value and also progress towards growth. MIS can be used in decision making and also controlling and analysis and visualization of the data collected by the process. Thus in MIS, data is collected for all the business units in an organization that uses technology need to be involved in developing management information systems. MIS collects the organizational data as a whole. This determines that these parts work together and organization insures that all functional roles understand what the others are doing through MIS data capture and visualization.

Knowledge-management repository is a system where the knowledge and information about and of the company is collected systematically and the data is organized and categorized. Here, the knowledge-management repository can be searched for a specific type of organized data and thus data can be extracted according to the requirement. Here also the knowledge-management repositories will connect and collect all the data from the organization from all departments and everything about the organization such that other departments and units can also understand if they wish to, that what other units are doing.
