CH4 - DISCUSSION "So what" questions (p134) #1,2,3,4,5,6 - New from CES 2016 With technology changing so fast, we should look at what there is to offer and beyond. Though the questions are specifically aimed at TVs, DietSensor, Smart Beds and Smart Refrigerators, what other kinds of "smart" technology should we be concentrating on in the future? See if you can find some new technology that isn't brought up in the book. Be sure to think of these new technologies with respect to business. The book does a great job explaining that once we decide to expand, there is a lot of work to be done. It isn't as simple as buying a TV, or any other device, and moving forward. Hardware and software has to be configured, the data needs to be captured, processes need to be put in place and people need to be trained. HINT: Sounds a lot like the five components play along in this chapter too. It will be in your best interest to include this in your posts. You'll see this more and more throughout the quarter. We need to work with our employees, our vendors, the warehouse, accounting, scheduling, engineering, purchasing, management and the IS department.Technology sure causes a lot of work, doesn’t it? Where will this new technology take us and how can we use it to our advantage? What are the social implications? What are the good, the bad and the ugly sides to this technology? The consumers want everything in their one of most entertainment media “TV” and these technologies are giving chance to experience it. These trends on TV also increasing the demand for TVs by the consumers.
2.What types of sensors like DietSensor might be useful for other IoT devices?
Answer: There are various other sensors are available which might be useful for other IoT devices. Some common sensors are as follow:
3. Why might doctors and nutritionists be interested in a device like DietSensor?
Answer: Doctors and nutritionists found the device like “DietSensor” is very useful because this device is helping them to manage the chronic disease such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes mellitus. This tool is changing the way for managing the health and to make a fit body. This device has a feature which analyses and tracks the food intake of people when they consume it or during exercise. It counts the carb calories, fats, and protein which are necessary to analyses the nutrients. Such type of disease is very dangerous and increasing day by day. Doctors and nutrients need to find out an exact amount of intake carb taken by the patients. Using this tool, they effectively manage the diets of patients per hour, per meal, or as per need. Education, behavior modification, and management are the three core features of the tool which are providing information about the food portions on the body. This tool is permitting people to use it themselves and balance the calories, proteins, carbs, and fats. It is improving the health condition of patients and connecting them with their doctors or nutrients. Due to this, Doctors and nutrients found it a very interesting tool.
4. How could a smart bed benefit from being paired with a smartphone?
Answer: A smart bed has built-in internet connectivity which helps the people to get up at their time with the help of smart clock on smartphone. A sensor is attached with bed which tracks the heart rate, sleep restfulness, and breathing. It provides necessary suggestions to people for sleeping better. Integration with a smartphone and smart bed would help people to check whether sleep is better or not during the hit of 10000 steps. This integration would also help people to measure the temperature when they are in bed. Using smartphone, people can control the smart bed and adjust accordingly.
5. What other devices do you think could benefit from becoming “smart” devices? Why?
Answer: There are other devices such as washing machine and other home appliance could get benefits to become “smart devices”. It is because, the technology already developed the smart bed, smart TV, smart fridge, smart lock, smart shoes, and many more. Still some home appliance such as mixture, gas stove, etc., which should be enabled with the internet and technology. Development of such devices would make the life of a human being too easy and smart. People can do smart kitchen work in few seconds. It would store and analyses the stored data and generate recommendations. People can do remote monitoring, operation of these devices from their sitting place. It would not only transform the lives of human beings but also transform the business in new way.
6.What security or privacy concerns might be associated with a smart fridge?
Answer: Just like other smart devices, a smart fridge has also some security and privacy issues. A smart fridge provides information about the stored content and alerts people about the expiry date of any product. It uses this information and communicates with the oven for searching and creating the recipe. For this, it is collecting and producing a large database about particular. This database is a kind of personal database which stores the personal information about a family or person. The attackers, hackers, or criminals can use this database for malicious purpose. They can find out any sensitive personal medical information such as what they eat daily, amount of meal, etc. about particular person and misuse it. For this, they track these devices using internet and hack the IP address. They try to remotely control and access the interconnected devices such as the smart fridge. They are using the smart fridge for doing attack like DoS attack and access the private data to get the ransom. In simple words, smart fridge also becomes a security threaten to human life.
