Question
Please help me with my Project Management homework(SCM-435). I did the Weighted scoring model but not sure how to answer the Deliverables questions below. Please help me answer the questions below. Thank you!
You are a project manager who has been hired for an IT consulting startup (TechCo) that has been capitalized and is considering from a variety of projects to begin operations. The executive team at TechCo has identified several projects: 1. As this is a new startup venture, the executive team recognizes the importance of branding and marketing. This is an internal project to develop an all-encompassing marketing strategy that includes developing the brand, developing marketing goals and tactics, and creating digital platforms, eto 2. The founder of your company has a former college classmate who works for financial services startup (FinCo) and has asked TechCo to implement a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system for them. This project would involve evaluating existing CRM systems for their applicability and then installing the software, training FinCo's customer service people, and maintaining the application once installed 3. FinCo's executive team would also like you to analyze their company and business processes, and design your own proprietary CRM system as an option to potentially include in the evaluation of existing CRM systems in #2 above. This project would involve meeting with Finco's executive team, IT support staff, customer service staff, analysts, and other stakeholders to analyze their customer service business processes. Then document the analyses and design an application and database to perform CRM for FinCo. 4. Part of why TechCo hired you was because you have contacts with some other firms that you can potentially bring as new customers to TechCo. One of those contacts, from a web development company (WebCo) that services local smal businesses, has asked you to pitch a project to TechCo to develop a mobile app as complements to WebCo's web site development. This is for a local business that provides consumers with a driver/concierge who will do things like shop for groceries, pick up dry-cleaning and/or meals and deliver to the customer's home. Sort of like an enhanced version of Uber Eats. This project would involve developing the mobile app for iOS and Android that would allow the "customer" to request concierge services and provide information like the nature of the job/trip, preferred providers, etc. The "concierge" side of the app would provide the driver with the necessary information (shopping list, pick-up requests, etc.) and locations for pick ups and drop-offs. Both sides will need to provide account maintenance functions, money handling functions, and feedback and evaluation functions.Explanation / Answer
It is speaking about various projects, with given weightages for each component like cost of the project, time requires to complete the project, Engagement of the project, Techinicial ability and sustainability of the project. Each component has give some weight and by adding all these weights, we finally gets the weight to the project.
As per the analysis of weights, project 2 stands at the top, because each of the component is meeting the required criteria than the other remaining projects. It's cost is acceptable, engagement is good, time is sufficent to complete, technically feasible and sustainable project which grows stronger and bigger. This is viable for takeup and making investments in this.
where as the project which carries low score is project 4, due to the lesser weights of each component. Means it is not viable to make investments in this and to takeup. Instead of takingup the projects like these, it is better to go with best projects like project 2 or 3.
The most important criteria to accept or reject a project are:
The criteria that is less important in the factors is: Engagement, means the involvement of people with resources, even if it is lesser, it wont make any difference in the performance of the firm.
Each project has its own conditions, situations, circumstances, environment, objectives and end results, we can not treat all the projects in the same way. The conditions of construction of an Airport is different from construction of a Shipyard and different from a national highway. Hence, all these factors should be considered and all they are different from one to another. But all the projects have to be fully study the criteria in different aspects.
Yes, some criteria is important than others, but all of these must be fulfilled and reached. Every asepct has its own weightage in the process, untill we met it, the perfection comes. Otherwise, we may loss the purity and perfection in it.
