Leadership is a process through which an individual attempts to intentionally influence people to accomplish a goal. This can be done through their traits, skills, and/or behaviors. Leadership is performed at all management levels in an HCO. Specifically, the behavior theory examines leadership behavior and how it influences leadership effectiveness rather than the traits and skills a leader has. This theory looks at what a leader does, how he or she behaves and conducts themselves in each environment. Although the best leadership style depends on the situation at hand, I believe the leadership perspective that is most important for an HCO leader is behavior. By focusing on the behaviors that the leader exemplifies, rather than their specific skills and traits, the organization can be clear and concise about the behaviors that they expect from their employees.
As time goes on, it is clear that the best leaders lead by example. If the leader of an HCO displays the behavior in which they want their employees to personify, then those employees will know the expectations that they need to uphold to be successful in the workplace. Many leaders these days like to sit around and let the employees do all the work for them, which leads to employees despising their leader and management as a whole. A leader that does work rather than pawn it off on all of their employees will be successful in the long run and have respectable relationships within the workplace. Although leading by example is a good route to go for most leaders, some behaviors have been shown to produce unexceptional results. Research has shown that a leader who initiated structure, such as action to complete jobs and goals, when structure was already sufficient decreased employee satisfaction. The most important thing for a leader to focus on, in regards to behavior, is to have balance and not have a high structure at all times. When the behavior becomes overbearing to the employees, then employee satisfaction will decrease. Having a leader that demonstrates pronounced behavior is exceptionally important for an HCO and the HCO’s employees.
Explanation / Answer
I agree with this post as it is rightly mentioned that Leadership can be done through their traits, skills, or behaviours and in HCO behavioural theory is followed.
Behavioural theory of leadership focuses on the behaviour of leader and that determines the success of leadership.
There can be different type of leaders with different behaviours. Generally there are two types of behaviours found in leaders –
As mentioned in HCO, Leader must motivate the employee to work harder for their own benefit and for the organisation as whole.
Leader should always know how to maintain balance between individual and organisation goals.
Leader must set attainable goals which can be achieved by members of the team.
Leader must also himself work to set examples for the team.
