I support the pluralist perspective of the health policy market. Pluralist theory about how the policymaking process works includes several interconnected arguments that, taken together, constitute what has come to be called a group theory of politics. The pluralist perspective believes that because so many interest groups are operating, everyone’s interests can be represented by one or more of them. I am a fan of how the pluralists have everyone playing an essentially positive role in public policymaking since the United States can be seen through an elitist perspective, where the power elite make the decisions for everyone. They also argue that various interest groups compete with and counterbalance each other in the policy marketplace. The most impactful aspect of the pluralist perspective is that they do not question that some groups are stronger than others, however, they contend that as a groups seek their preferred outcomes, power is widely dispersed among competing groups, with each group winning some of the time and losing some of the time. Although it can be hard to satisfy all groups when following the pluralist perspective, you can count on the fact that no group is likely to become too dominant in the competition. Interest groups, also known as advocacy groups, work to achieve a particular outcome through collective action in the policy market. They are ubiquitous in the United States, more in the health sector than any other sector of the economy. The interest group I chose to research is the Children’s Health Fund. For over 25 years, they have been battling barriers in health care for homeless and other low-income children. They travel to cities and towns across America with their 53 medical units to provide over 290,000 health care encounters each year. People involved in this group include the executive board, board of directors, advisory council, doctors, and nurses. All of these people work on behalf of the organization Children’s Health Fund. The CHF has been very successful in influencing policymaking for 30 years and counting. They have been involved in the Affordable Care Act, Education and Health Care, Transportation Barriers to Health Care Access, Immigration Reform Health Care Opportunities for Children, Putting Child Poverty on the National Agenda, and many more.

I agree that taking a pluralist approach makes every bodies viewpoint important. It gives due importance and perspective to diverse views, which exist in the society. Pluralist theory believes diversity in thought without letting any particular idea dominate the thinking.
It acknowledges and accepts that there will be diversity in a political group. All groups will get equal opportunity for example church, university or any other business association. It creates the ideal democracy and ensures that all interest groups benefit.
The success of the pluralist theory is seen by the successful management of the Children’s Health Fund who has influenced many policies like affordable health care act, education, and healthcare, immigration reforms etc. Their efforts of 25 years in the field of providing health care for the homeless and low-income group children is worth applauding.
To sum it up pluralist theory supports positive diverse interests, with a higher level of acceptance and less prejudice especially towards the minorities.
