Question

IET 411 - Homework: Read “The Six Values of a Quality Culture”.

Write a 3to4 page paper on how you would apply the methodologies and techniques explained to develop a quality culture in your current or past employment. Make sure to emphasize each of the six values outlined and include an Implementation Plan.

You will lose points for not including an Implementation Plan.

This is NOT a Book Report - DO NOT summarize the article.
A summary of the article will result in a “0” on the assignment!!

the first part:

The paper must contain an Implementation Plan with the following:
1. Details of how the plan will be carried out
2. Timeframe of how long it will take to implement each value
3. Must be realistic with respect to the Career Field it is to be applied in
4. A way to gauge progress or success or failure of the implementation

This is to be submitted via Black Board

Remember, your plan needs to be specific - avoid generalizations or vague ideas and concepts. Details matter. Look at the example below from a past student:

Value 2: No subordinates or superiors allowed.
When a company culture eliminates the mentality behind superior-subordinate relationships, people more freely express what is on their minds.
There was always somebody in the team like a full-time worker who spoke louder than others due to which some interns who might have really good ideas on the topic felt left out and felt as if they could not speak their voices.

Implementation Plan
The plan is to implement a brainstorming session with cross-functional teams consisting of supervisors and general employees, where everybody in the team can write down their own ideas and then everybody brainstorms, free of judgment on suggestions to improve efficiencies.

Time frame of how long it will take to implement
This might take 2-4 weeks for everybody to get accustomed to the plan and understand why it is done and how this will improve the productivity. The program will consist of bi-weekly 1 hour meetings which will meet for the entire fiscal year.

This plan will allow employees to communicate more effectively and allow them the opportunity to not only come up with new ideas, but also help in the implementation and sustainability of these ideas. Ideally, the organization will be able make better decisions and enhance productivity because it secures every employee's commitment to all phases of the work.

Measurement of Success
Overall company defects will be monitored weekly and utilized to populate a monthly scorecard. Ideally, if this approach is working there should be a decrease in overall defects. As the program matures, additional metrics would be incorporated such as: labor expense, profits, employee productivity.

the second part:

The six values I have identified are:
Value 1: We're all in this together: company, suppliers, customers.
Value 2: No subordinates or superiors allowed.
Value 3: Open, honest communication is vital.
Value 4: Everyone has access to all information on all operations.
Value 5: Focus on processes.
Value 6: There are no successes or failures, just learning experiences.
To better understand these values let's state the opposite of each one. The opposites better characterize the assumptions behind lots of behavior in businesses today.
Value 1: Everyone for him or herself.
Value 2: The boss knows best.
Value 3: Keep communication limited and secretive.
Value 4: Keep most information at the top, and share it only when necessary.
Value 5: Focus on individual work.
Value 6: Success is everything; no tolerance for failure. Answer just the FIRST PART .DO NOT ANSWER THE second part. This part has been answerd by one tutor, i need just to do the first part which you should keep it fit with the second part. In other word, you should complete the job that had done by the first tutor. And here is his answer :

My past employment was with a consumer goods company that makes and sells products like shampoos, soaps, lotions and other personal care products on a global basis. To develop a quality culture the outlined six values have to be incorporated in the company’s culture and value system in a tangible manner.
Value 1: This value is based on the notion that organizations are nothing but systems. For a system sum of the parts exceeds the whole and for it to function efficiently all the parts have to work together and in tandem to achieve efficiency and optimality. The sub parts of an organization are its different stakeholders like suppliers, employees, customers etc. All these stakeholders should work in sync to create synergies.
Value 2: This value focuses on the need to eliminate mentality that leads to superior-subordinate relationship. This relationship does exist but when it is not given undue importance then employees start freely expressing their thoughts and notions. This leads to better though process as well as higher level of co-ordination within an organization.
Value 3: Open and honest communication leads to elimination of misunderstandings and creation of higher level of trust among employees. This is based on elements like empathy as well as listening.
Value 4: In today’s digital age when people have ready access to real time information hierarchies do not serve a very useful purpose. Now hierarchy is not needed (unlike earlier times) to dispense information. Technology should be used to give everyone direct access to information and this will lead to increased level of workplace efficiency.
Value 5: My organization has different processes for turning inputs into outputs. It takes inputs like vegetable and animal fats, oils; parabens etc. and turn it into tangible products like soaps. Focusing on processes helps my organization and its stakeholders to understand the importance of teamwork. Focus on processes leads to continuous improvement.
Value 6: Success and failures are passing phases. Organizations and its employees should treat them as learning experiences and should apply these learning to further implement improvements within the organization.
The implementation plan will incorporate all these values for achieving the dual purpose of quality culture creation and quality culture maintenance. Once the quality culture is created an organization should not stop at that. Rather it should work towards the next step of quality culture maintenance. For maintaining the quality culture the commitment of top management will be required.

Explanation / Answer

Implementation plan:

a. Details of how the plan would be carried out

In order to carry out a plan which involves all stakeholders, it is very important that the communication to all the participants is done in the right and positive manner. Each stakeholder should be insync with the values that we are proposing. Therefore, in order to do that, each stakeholder community should be taught or injected a culture of togetherness which would happen through various workshops which are to be attended by teams which will have a mix of all stakeholders forming different teams. By doing this, there would be more of a team building activity which will further inject trust amongst each other. Going forward, there wont be conflicts between cross-functions.

b. Timeframe taken to implement

In order to have a robust team culture across the organisation, it would take time of atleaset 2 months. The reason being, people will be reluctant to the new change and might take time to adjust to the new circumstances. In this process, there might be various conflicts that would arise and the resolution of the same would take time. Therefore, collaborating all stakeholders under one umbrella would take atleast two months of tme.

c. Career field to be applied in : This practice has to be implied mostly in the employees and suppliers whi would play a major role in defining the culture of the organsiation. If the employees and suppliers find a growth by following this culture, they would definitely be eager to work on it and develop the required culture amongst the organisation.

d. Way to gauge progress or success or failure of the implementation - It is very important that a proper mechanism is maintained to measure the success or failure of the implementation. This can be done by assigning tasks to teams that were setup which included members from each functions. The completion of the task measured by the time taken to complete the task and also conflicts arised during the task would help understand the further implications to be taken to ensure smoother process.
