Question

Please summarize, rephase, or rewrite the following passage in at least 190 words:

"In this paper we describe a simulation model for bed capacity planning in Intensive Care. The model shows that there is a non-linear relationship between numbers of beds, mean occupancy level and the numbers of patients that have to be transferred through lack of bed space. Furthermore, there is a heavy trade off between bed occupancy and the number of transfers. The model employs a rudimentary deferral rule for the elective patients when their admission is blocked through lack of bed space; from this we conclude that there is scope for a more effective elective patient admission scheduling system. As a result of this work, a multi-disciplinary Intensive Care Modelling Task Group has been set up to guide the development of a more sophisticated model."

Explanation / Answer

Admission of patients is much more dependent on the bed capacity of the hospital. There is always a need to have a precise and effective model for providing effective bedding and transfer systems.

The paper presents the simulation model for bed capacity planning in intensive care so as to provide the effective solution for the bedding system. The model is significant as it shows the nonlinear relationship between numbers of the beds

The model shows that there is a non-linear relationship between numbers of beds, mean occupancy level and the numbers of patients that have to be transferred through lack of bed space that is it describes and presents the concept and effect of need of bed in intensive care and because of which the patient have to be transferred. The problem is further taken to another level when the admission is blocked through lack of bed space. The model employs a rudimentary deferral rule for the elective patients as effective elective patient admission scheduling system is needed. Concluding that a multi-disciplinary Intensive Care Modeling Task Groups have been setup and working towards providing more efficient model in place has been set up.
