This course is all about data, but if the data is not presented in a meaningful way that catches the eye of the reader, we miss one of the prime goals of data analytics. In David Peoples book, Presentation Plus: David peoples Proven Techniques, the seven deadly sins of presentations are discussed.

Deadly sin: Tell the audience more than they want to know.

1.In your own words, explain the deadly sin and why would it be considered a deadly sin.

2.Share your perspective when you are at a presentation when the deadly sin is committed.

Explanation / Answer

1. The 7 sins as Lust, Gluttony ,Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, Pride.

Lust generates out of the intense longing that could be in any aspect – be it money, power, sex that can lead to immoral acts.

Gluttony usually means the beyond limit consumption of anything to the point of wastage. It very much generates out of selfishness and excessive desire of possessions magnified against needs.

Greed is more of desire for material possessions. Getting ownership of materials out of act of violence, manipulation is all result of greed.

Sloth is more of laid-backness and lack of interest and concentration in anything. It is the state of indifference and idleness.

Wrath is the anger that comes non voluntarily and expressed through violence, impatience, revenge.

Envy is characterized by jealousy, discontent on self, grief at other’s prosperity.

Pride is characterized as the most deadliest of all the sins and the most serious. It is a trait of considering oneself as the most superior and important than others.

2. The exhibition of some or the form of sin happens within and around us on a daily basis with or without being noticed. In a workplace scenario, it is seen quite often that employees showing extreme repulsion towards assigned tasks and behaving like super lazy and not being able to meet targets, which is in turn a generation out of the prevalent existence of other sins, i.e, envy of other peer member’s achievement within the team or pride in the form of over confidence. This anyhow makes the matter more complicated and one who falls prey to the dominant sins, end up jeopardizing their own states more than others.

3. Avoiding sins like Wrath could be controlled by proper meditation and Greed can be tamed with contentedness, trying to reduce exemplifying others.
