Question
Im doing a report for my HR management class where we need to choose a potential job position in a potential organization. I decided on a pharma rep, and I really need a decent grade on this to get my diploma (or pay thousands to go back to school for another semester). For this report I need help on answering the following areas, I've been struggling on these two.
Design unstructured and structured interview questions for the position
Give and explain the type of training required for the candidate in the position.
Explanation / Answer
Please read the instructions below. It should help you int answering the questions. However, please note that these are recommendations. You should use your own language and the job description of the position to create more points.
Structured questions for a Pharma Rep should be able to test his/her selling and communication skills. The best way to approach this will be to have list of some skill sets that is required and test the candidate on those skill with few different types of questions. Some of the questions that are structured and can be used in this scenario are
Salesmanship
Industry awareness
Communication
The above questions are not comprehensive but it will help in structuring the overall interview process better. The key is to divide the desired skills into different parts and then create questions that can capture the candidate’s answer to measure his skill level.
In terms of unstructured questions, it is really not straight forward to design. The simple reason behind is that unstructured questions cannot be predetermined. The purpose of such questions is usually to explore the mindset and the thought process of the candidate. However, there are a few things that can be done. For example,
These are all exploratory question to understand the mind of the candidate. However upon any kind of answer the conversation can be taken forward with the strategy of 4W and 1H. This means on any answer you could always ask further questions that begins with what, why, who, where, and how.
When designing a training program for pharma rep, you may want to follow the standard MECE methodology. This will help you in building the training hierarchy and then approach the training design. Overall I would design training using three broad categories. They are Product, Process, and People. Then I would further dig down into each of those categories to identify the training needs. Take a look at the hierarchy below and this should help you out.
Next step will be put a time beside each of the training topics and determine the overall training schedule. For example, I would keep the first three weeks as training period and split each week into three further parts. Each for Product, Process and People.
