From the perspective of a leader, I would say that it is important to get from behind your desk and lead by example, lead from the front. Too often, managers sit back and have a hands off approach. They lead from behind the desk. At my previous job, I was the sales manager. I would have described myself as an acting manager. Unlike the other managers who really did more of a managing role. They didn’t actually go out and perform the tasks of the everyday employees. I think they also didn’t have the respect that my department had for me. My team knew that I was not afraid to actively do the job that I was asking them to do. They knew I was asking them to do something, then I was willing to do it, myself.

I think there are two completely different views on this topic. It is easy to sit here on the employee side and Monday morning quarterback the management choices made. While management can to often be ineffective in the eyes of the everyday employee. It is important for the innovative employee to not get sucked into the black hole of negativity. Stay focused on working hard and don’t get caught up in coffee machine drama. When they get the chance to step up and take on a task from a leadership role, rise to the challenge.

Explanation / Answer

I completely agree with the author's view, largely there are 2 kind of leadership style you will come across. And as a team member you should know that how to act with a certain leader with distinct style. People who don't like to lead from the front are always authoritive. They will direct you and give you orders to do the work with deadlines. These leaders get pleased if the job is done within time limit. They are least bothered about the quality of work until they get to hear about it from their seniors or clients.

While on the other side is the leaders who like to set example and encourage their team members to follow the path. These kind of leaders are very helpful in nature and will not only tell you how to do the job but also will encourage you to share issues and work related problems.
