For Job 1 you require 4 weeks and each job requieres 40 hours of labor per week:
Job 1= (4 weeks)x(40 hours of labor)/week = 160 hours of labor (You need 160 hours to complete the job number 1 and remenber 160 hours of regular time labor are available, so It is enough).
Therefore the cost is: Job 1= 160 hour of laborx(10 $/ hour) = 1600 $
Job 2= (3 weeks)x(40 hours of labor)/week = 120 hours of labor (You need 120 hours to complete the job number 2 and remenber 160 hours of regular time labor are available, so It is enough) ( we have 40 hours free)
As you can see, the number of weeks in some of the other jobs are less than 4 weeks requiered, that is to say, the hours of labor are less than the hours of regular time labor availabe (160) but in the jobs number 3 and number 9 are required 5 weeks and as a result the hours of labor are 200. So the cost are bigger because the normal cost would be 160 hours x(10 $/hour) + 40 hours x (20 $/hour)= 2400 $.
Now, a) the best way to minimize the overtime cost is starting the following job when the second job is finished for example, we can use the 40 hours free in order to advance the next job. It is good gay to reduce the cost due to the overtime.
b) In order to reduce the sum of overtime cost, I recommend to do the same as I said in letter a above. In order to the due date penalties I recomend to do the first the jobs 3, 4 and 9 because they have same tieme of requirement and the same due date, so it is necessary to have ready before the due date.
