Question
Class, Many students provide the standard text book examples but now I want you to think about another waste called "Expediting".
If you have some time tomorrow record the amount of time you spend expediting with other employees. Who are you following up with that did not do their jobs correctly and how much time do you spend seeking the correct information? If everyone would perform their own jobs correctly you should not have to spend any time expediting. Would you consider this a non-value activity?
Explanation / Answer
Expedite refers to the process making things faster to accomplish the things on the right time. It is not a non value added activity as it helps to find out short cut or easiest way to solve the issues and also enhances the creativity as well. It also helps in building a team effort by brainstorming about the issue and identify the solution to solve the issues at the earliest. If everybody is focused on the work they got expeditions might not be necessary. Still it can be done to to clear the ideas and to fill the gaps between the understandings. One major disadvantage of expedition is that some lazy fellows who don’t give any input might get the result because of shared information by the process of expedition. Make the expedition process more value added by understanding the crux of the project and then have a detailed discussion to make the things more perfect and more easier. Expedition now a days used a s tool for discussions in R& D, and other engineering fields.
