Assignment #1 - Job Posting and Customized Résumé
Due: June 20, 2016 (with Assignment 2)
As you learned in Chapter 13, a hiring manager may get hundreds or even thousands of generic résumés in response to an advertised job opening. A customized résumé that includes a “summary of qualifications” ensures that your most impressive qualifications are not overlooked by a recruiter.
A summary of qualifications (also called career profile, job summary or professional highlights) should include three to eight bulleted statements that prove you are the ideal candidate for the position. When formulating these statements, consider your experience in the field, your education, your unique skills, awards you have won, certifications, and other accomplishments that you want to highlight. Target the most important qualifications an employer will be looking for in the person hired for this particular position based on their job advertisement.
Select a job advertisement or announcement from (a) a company Web site, (b) a job board on the Web, (c) a professional association listing or (d) the online classified ads section of a newspaper describing the kind of employment you are seeking now or plan to seek when you graduate.
Using Microsoft Word, create an attractive, professional looking résumé that includes a Summary of Qualifications following your Main Heading DO NOT USE A FILL-IN TEMPLATE!
