Explanation / Answer
As a housekeeping manager in a hotel, I'm expected to ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the hotel to project it as a clean destination for the visitors. Housekeeping can be the a differentiating factor in how a visitor perceives the hotel. Hence, as a housekeeping manager, it is important to have patience, ability to manage people, perfection etc. as the predominant qualities.
Based on my self-assessment results, below are few points on my current state and the conflicts with the organizational culture -
The qualities which are inline with the organizational culture based on the decent scoring in the self assessment results are - not experiencing burnout (4), communication skills (6), leadership skills (9), management skills (10), decision making skills (13), Creativity (14), project management skills (15).
The qualities which are in conflict with the organizational culture are -
1) Extravert, Sensing,Thinking, Judging - score is low which is a conflict ---- as the job requires the person to be more extravert; more sensing by considering customer feedback to take decisions; should think logically rather than depending on own feelings; should be more judging as the job doesn't require to be improvised.
Ways of improvement - To improve interpersonal skills, consider feedback, depend on logical decision making and stick to the plan as the job doesn't require much of improvisation.
2) Productivity needs to be improved as is the same with every job.
Ways of improvement - Productivity needs to be high for any job and so should be for a housekeeping manager job. Delegating work to resources effectively and standardizing the process increases the productivity.
3) Locus of conrol is external which is not desired for the job as the manager should believe he controls the things.
Ways of improvement - As a housekeeping manager, locus of control should be internal. This can be improved by considering that the manager's decisions are responsible for the results.
5) Holmes and Rahe Stress scale - Moderate chance of becoming ill in future which is not a desired result for the job as it requires continuous monitoring of the work of the cleaning staff.
Ways of improvement - Regular exercising, positive thinking and good diet will help lower the score and maintain health to carry on the regular job duties.
6) Problem solving skills - Unexpected resource crunch might result in bad housekeeping. This is where the problem solving skills get highlighted.
Ways of improvement - Identifying areas where problems might arise and having backup solutions will help improving the problem solving skills.
8) Team Effectiveness Assessment and 11) People skills - Both relate to the interpersonal skills which need improvement to manage the staff.
Ways of improvement - Having common objectives and working towards the objectives ny defining related metrics can help improve on both the skills.
