1. Jean is exhibiting osteoporosis. The symptoms that relate to the diagnosis are: Jean is 75 years old woman with several fracture incidence in the past few years. Fractures are the most vital symptom of osteoporosis related to age and female gender. Moreover, heavy smoking and drinking habits have been attributed to accelerate the incidence of low mineral bone density and thus osteoporosis in wlderly women.
2. Main changes that occur are in mineral density of bone as well as collagen characteristics. moreover, microdamage of matrix affects the bone adversely.
3. The lifestyle changes i would suggest would be:
a. Stop alcohol drinking and tobacco smoking.
b.Having a balanced nutrititious diet.
c. Taking vitamin D supplements.
d. Become physically active to increase bone and muscle strength.
Treatments for osteoporosis include:
Bisphosphonates and Teriparatide have been found to be very effective in treatment of osteoporosis and decreasing the occurence of fracture.
