Submit My Answers Up Part C lf the two flasks are connected through a stopcock and the stopcock is opened what is the total pressure? O Ask me anything

Explanation / Answer

According to Daltons law

Total Pressure = sum of partial pressures

Now as per Boyle law

P1V1 = P2V2

Taking He

P1 = initial pressure = 742 torr

P2 = final pressure ( partial pressure)

V1 = initial volume =255 ml

V2 =final volume = total volume of the finished system = 255 L + 470 L = 725 ml

Now solving for P2

P2 = PHe= P1V1/ V2

= 742 torr x 255ml / 725ml

= 261 torr .......................(A)

Same as for Argon

PAr = 729 torr x 470 ml/ 725 ml

= 473 torr ..................................(B)

Now

total pressure

P = PHe + PAr

= 261 + 473

= 734 torr .....................................(C)
