One test we can do is Zeisel test

Compound is treated with HI acid and later we boil. The fomred products which turn on gas on heating is made to get in contact with paper with AgNO3. If we get colour then we have ether.

Reactions are given below

R1-O-R2 + HI ---> R1-OH + R2-I

R2-I + AgNO3 ---> AgI (s) + R2-NO3  

Thus ether can be confirmed by this test
