1.) why do we equalize the water levels on the out side and the inside of the buret ?
2.)Is the reaction contucted in this experiment an oxidation-reduction reaction? If no why not
, If So why is it by describing the element that is being oxidized and wich element gets reduced
(over view ) The mixture of KClO3 and MnO2 was decomposed by heating to generate the oxygen gas which displaces the water from the Florence flask.

Explanation / Answer
1. the experiment is carried out at atmospheric pressure. Thus by wqualizing the water level on the inside and the outside of the buret we make sure that the pressure is constant both inside and outside of the system and is at atmospheric pressure.
2. The reaction is a decomposition reaction, wherein,
KClO3 is decomposed into KCl and O2
the released O2 is then measured by volume of water displaced by the gas in the buret.
In the reaction, Cl is in +5 oxidation state in KClO3 which goes to -1 state in KCl and thus Cl is being reduced.
On the other hand, Oxygen is in -2 oxidation state in KClO3 which goes to 0 oxidation state in O2, thus being oxidized.
