Question
Report Sheet Solutions and Solubility I. Solubility of a salt. Data Table 1 82, 82 Unknown number mass of evaporating dish mass of evaporating dish and solution mass of evaporating dish and dry salt temperature of solution Calculations (Carry out to the proper number of significant digits.) 1. mass of solution 2. mass of dry salt 3. mass and volume of water (Density of H20-1.00 g/mL) 4. solubility of salt in g/100 mL H20 5. Could your unknown be one of the salts shown on the Graph of Solubilities of Salts? Explain.Explanation / Answer
1.Mass of solution= mass of evaporating dish and solution - mass of evaporating dish= 87.72 - 82.82= 4.9g
2.Mass of dry salt= mass of evaporating dish and dry salt - mass of evaporating dish= 86.61 - 82.82= 3.79g
3. Mass of solution = mass of solute (salt)+ mass of solvent (water)
Therefore, 4.9g = 3.79+ mass of solvent
Mass of solvent = 4.9 - 3.79= 1.11g
Hence mass of solvent water = 1.11g
Density = mass / volume
Hence volume = mass/ density = 1.11/1.00 = 1.11ml of water.
4. If 3.79g of salt dissolves in 1.11ml of water
_____g of salt dissolves in 100ml of water
= 100*3.79/1.11 = 341.44g /100ml of water.
5. Solubility graph is not attached in the question
