Question
I write quite a bit in plain text files. A simple text editor, like Notepad, meets most of my needs when writing plain text files.
But sometimes being able to bold or italicize a word is very useful. And being able to indent a section of text is a big plus. Outside of that, I don't need much for these documents (see this question for when more is needed). A spelling checker is a plus, but definitely not essential.
There are tons of great notepad and word processor programs out there, but most are overkill for this simple purpose. Really, all I need is bold, italicize, and indent.
I would like to save the file as a plain text file (with appropriate markup or Markdown, which will be needed), or if I absolutely have to, as an RTF (Rich Text File).
I want the program to be Windows 7 compatible, fast, lean, free, and preferably portable.
(I've tried Jarte Portable, but it only handles RTF or completely non-formatted text (no markup), and there is something about it that after it starts, the cursor spins like it is busy for 2-4 seconds, which I know is a bit picky, but I don't like.)
Explanation / Answer
I am recommending this new thing called Nevron Text editor. I personally use it mainly to write on it formatted text, that I implement in a WordPress site. There I'm able to do all kind of formatting as I am in MSWord, with the slight difference that I can export everything as a web page with inline styles and then paste it anywhere.
With the Nevron Text Editor I perfectly create everything I want, format all the content and then export the HTML code, to the WordPress HTML section of my website. So far I haven't met a feature that I need and I can't find in it.
It is completely free. Yes, you need to register to download it, there's a watermark on top of the page and when you open it pops out this window that makes you wait for 10 seconds before you can choose to keep on using is for free, but if anyone sees this is as such a big problem, you can always just pay the 20$ (as this is the cost of the product if you want to buy it) and continue without the watermark and the 10 seconds period to wait. Alternatively, if you don
