Fist of all, remember that reduction is gaining of electrons, oxidation is losing of electrons. Now let's take a look at #1. oxygen always has an oxidation numberof -2, so chlorine must have an oxidation number of +5 in order toobtain the overall charge of -1 for ClO3. On the productside of the equation, oxygen have an oxidation number of 0, sooxygen LOSES electrons during the process, so we say that it isOXIDIZED. The oxidation number of chlorine, on the other hand, goesfrom +5 to +1, so it GAINS electrons during the process, we saythat it is REDUCED. Potassium has an oxidation number of +1 on bothsides of the equation, it is neither oxidized or reduced. Oxidizing agent -- species is reduce. In this case, it must bechlorine; Reducing agent -- species is oxidized. In this case, it must beoxygen. Follow the same reasoning, I'm sure you'll be able to finish therest of your questions yourself. Please let me know if you have anyquestions.
