Question

Part 1)
The molar enthalpy of combustion of -D-fructose(C6H12O6) is -2810.40 kJ/mol.Using the standard enthalpies of formation below, calculateHf° for -D-fructose?

Hf°CO2(g) = -393.51kJ/mol;Hf°H2O(l)= -285.83 kJ/mol

I got the answer for this part which is : 1265.64 kJ/mol

However, i need help with the second part here..

Part2)

Calculate the mass (in grams) of -D-fructose produced whenthe heat of formation is determined to be -1860.491 kJ during theformation of a sample of -D-fructose . Report your answer tothree significant figures.

Thanks

Explanation / Answer

what you need to do here is to use the amount of energyproduced to find the number of moles of -D-fructose producesand then convert that to grams using the molar mass of-D-fructose of 262.1535 g/mol First number of moles 1265.64 kJ/mol / 1860.491 kJ= .68 mol then find grams .68mol * 262.1535 g/mol = 178 g Which is your final answer.
