Question
Carbonyl fluoride, COF2 is an important intermediate used in the production of fluorine-containing compounds. For instance, it is used to make the refrigerant carbon tetrafluoride, CF4 via the reaction 2 COF2 (g) <---> CO2 (g) + CF4 (g) Kc=8.60 If only COF2 is present initially at a concentration of 2.00 M, what concentration of COF2 remains at equilibrium? Express the molar concentration numerically. Part B Consider the reaction CO (g) +NH3 (g) <---> HCONH2 (g), Kc = .770 If a reaction vessel initially contains only CO and NH3 at concentrations of 1.00 and 2.00M respectively. What will the concentration of HCONH2 be at equilibrium? Express the molar concentration numerically. I really appreciate anyone answering these two questions, I have attempted these problems for 2 hours and I still didn't get the answer right. Please help!!!Explanation / Answer
1) let the number of moles of COF2 used be 2x.so
[COF2]=2-2x
[CO]=x
[CF4]=x
so. 8.6=x^2/(2-2x)^2
or x=0.85
so [COF2]=0.3
2)let the number of moles of CO used be x.so,
[CO]=1-x
[NH3]=2-x
[HCONH2]=x
so,
0.77=x/((1-x)(2-x))
or x=0.53
so [HCONH2]=0.53
