Question

For the following be sure to explain your answers based on the data collected as well as your knowledge of the physiology of the urinary system.

A) In which subject(s) would ADH likely be working more? Why?

B) In which subjects might aldosterone be having the greater effect? Why?

use your knowlage to answer that relating to the data in the tables above

Explanation / Answer

A) 1. ADH is the hormone that regulate the body's water retention.

2. ADH increase the water permeability at distal convoluted tubule and collecting duct cells.

3. This allows water reabsorption and excretion of more concentrated urine.

4. In the above reports #1 Maria 1140 ml. The volume of urine is more. Reabsorption of water at DCT and collecting duct cells is not taking place.

5. In the case of #1 Maria ADH would work more likely, and enhances reabsorption of water, so that volume of urine is decrease.

B) 1. Aldosterone is a type of steriod hormone, it acts primarily in renal collecting ducts to stimulate reabsorption of Na+ as well as secretion of K+ and H+.

2. In the above #4-Anna's report showing that there is 1.95 total gNaCl in 700 ml volume of urine.

3. Na+ salts reabsorption is less in renal collecting ducts.

4. In the case of #4-Anna Aldesterone have a greater effect in reabsoption of Na+.
