Question

Choose one research topcic. WHY do you feel number 1 or number is interesting? Short essay...short :)

1) RESEARCH SUMMARY

Neuronal Blockages and Alzheimer’s: How traffic moves along the neuronal highways in the brain.

Within axons vital cargoes must be transported over great distances along microtubule tracks to maintain cell viability. In neuronal cells, many proteins function in sending and receiving messages, cell repair, and cell protection. My interest is to elucidate if degeneration of neurons in two neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s disease or Huntington’s/other polyQ diseases), is related to a defect in this long distance transport system and what mechanisms facilitate the normal transport of APP and huntingtin.

2)

RESEARCH SUMMARY

The Xu-Friedman lab studies the mechanisms and functions of synaptic plasticity, focussing on auditory nerve synapses in the mouse cochlear nucleus as a model system. The lab investigates both activity- and neuromodulator-dependent plasticities, using electrophysiology and calcium imaging in brain slices. In addition, the functional effects of plasticity are being studied by recording from auditory nerve and cochlear nucleus in vivo

Explanation / Answer

I think that number 1 is more interesting as it gives us knowledge about the dangerous disease alzheimer and also gives us knowledge about neuronal blockage. So first lets start with neuronal blockage,as neuronal cells are used to transmit the nerve signal from and to the brain, they help in transmitting signals within the nerve network. So the patients that are consuming anti inflammatory drug will cause blockage in the neuron so they are unable to send or receive signals properply. So this causes neuronal blockage. Now Alzheimer's is a disease that causes problem in our brain such as it affects our memory, thunking power and behaviour,it also cause short term memory loss.Alzheimer is mainly caused by death of neuronal cell, mainly the death of neuronal cell is caused by trauma or cerebral ischemia or through apoptosis. The most advanced alzheimer causes death in the form of pneumonia as the disease will become an intercurrent infection

So this is the reason for choosing the research 1 because it gives us more information about the neuronal cells along with the disease alzheimer which is caused by the damage of neuronal cells.
