Consider the following paper chromatography data. (a) Select the two best solvent systems for the separation of a mixture that could contain one or more of the following dyes: B1, B2, and Y5 (b) Which of the two solvent systems you chose in (a) would you prefer to use for the separation? I don't remember quite well this topic, but I'll try to answer the best I can:
a) I will use the second solvent system, and the fourth solvent system.
b) For the two of above I will use the first one, because it has a higher solubility grade of separation for B1, and yet not to high grade for Y5. Therefore, the B1 dye will separate first, and then the second one (y5). B2 does not have a high grade, but it's low value is good, because in that case, I assure that it will not interfere with the separation of the other two dye.
