Question

In the Biodiversity lectures and with the previous Taxonomy lab we explored that Science uses Taxonomy to look for similarities and differences in understanding and defining organisms.

Animal Biodiversity is represented in the "body plans" of all animals as the evidence for the process of Evolution by Natural Selection changing organisms as they adapt to fulfil their goal of consuming energy (food). In the owl pellet lab, the evidence for this was explored.

All animals originated from a common ancestor since they are all heterotrophic in some way. There is a metabolic similarity explaining their shared ancestry.

1.    Why does grouping Animals into a food web help Science understand the species interactions that are occurring in an observed ecosystem?

Explanation / Answer

The food web in the ecosystem is interconnected between some sets of species and these species will be useful as food to the superior species and those superior species will be used as a food for other superior species. This chain link is known as food web and incase of any disturbance of any species,it may effect to the superior species.Inorder to overcome this, there is an idea, the more the species, the effect will be less to the superior species. The food web is the major source to the scientists to observe the changes in the ecosystem because without food web it is difficult to observe the movements of species in the ecosystem. The classification in the food chain is like scavengers, detrtivores and decomposers. In food chain, organisms grouped in to categories are known as trophic levels.
