Question

Remember the lion that crashed through your window? What division of the ANS immediately stepped up when that happened? Describe the path of a neuron from this division, starting from the lateral gray horn of the spinal cord and finishing at a smooth muscle cell lining a blood vessel. In doing so, mention: a) the names of the neurons involved, b) where the neurons synapse with each other (2 possible ganglia), c) what Nt is released from each of the neurons. Briefly describe 6 effects this division has on the body.

Explanation / Answer

The ANS has two divisions.one is sympathetic divisions which tends to arouse the body for action .eg. increasing heart beat ,increasing respiratory air flow but inhibits digestion. Nd the other division is parSympathetic divisions which tend to have a calming effect like slowing heart beat and stimulating digestion.

a)the neurons are presynaptic neurone ,postsynaptic neurone, preganlionic neurone, postganglionic neurone

The ganglions are autonomic ganglion , sympathetic and parasympathetic ganglion where the neurons meet eachother.

The neurotransmitter are acetylcholine and nonepinephrine are released from the each of the neurons.
