Question

Blockage of the urinary tract tends to cause decreased GFR (glomerular filtration rates), while nephritis and glomerular damage tend to increase filtration rates. Explain these results based on the net filtration equation for the kidney that relates HPg, HPc, OPg, and OPc. What effect would dehydration have on GFR and why? How would the kidney respond to this? Be sure to include what, if anything, would happen on the local, hormonal, and autonomic levels of control in response to dehydration. How would this be different in someone who was taking ACE inhibitors for high blood pressure? What would happen to the GFR in someone who has protein deficiency?

Explanation / Answer

Blockage of kidney :- in this case urine can not flow partially or completely through urete,ya bladder or urethra and causes swelling and several types of disease.

There may be many cause that may cause blockage such as kidney stone , any tumor , or injury or blood clots. And causes difficulty in urination that result is dicrease filtration rate that is dicrease in GFR.

Nephritis:- this is irritation in nephrons of kedney .results in frquent urge of urination.

Net filteration rate i.e., NFP = HPg-(OPg+HPc)

Effect of dehydration on GFR :- As the excess release of water or dehydration increases the blood pressure dicreases and kidney functions get slow . And results in dicrease of GFR.Decline in GFR happens on if there is severe dehydration . If GFR decreaes it may results in severe diseases.

ACE inhibitor :- dialate the blood vessel and decrease in the blood pressure. And if a petient is taking ACE inhibitor in dehydration time it may be dangerous because deydration it self result in low blood pressure and ACE inhibitor too does the same function and may result in rapid fall of blood pressure . That may damage the kidney or death of petient may happen.

Case of protein defeciency:- It results in decline of GFR .
