Post-Lab Questions Explain how and reactant concentration will affect the rate of a chemical why a decrease in 1. reaction. noticed from your experiment that even though the concentrations of the ou should have ed rate constant should be relatively reactants changed from one trial to the next, the 2. 3. similar. Do your results support t if had doubled the ould your observed reaction rates for the expe have changed you volume of each solution used in the Explain. 4. the particular between No. and ol, is Rate kINol2.lolal Suppose law for a affect the rate of the reaction? would each of the following a. If the concentration of NO2 is double then the reaction rate would by a factor of b. If the concentration of NO2 and Cla are both tripled, then the reaction rate would by a factor of c. The concentration of Cl2 is halved, then the reaction rate would by a factor of

Explanation / Answer

1. The rate of a chemical reaction depends on the concentration of reactants and is given by

Rate = k[reactant]n , where n = order of the reaction.

Hence a change in the concentration of reactant changes the rate of the reaction.

3: When we double the volume, concentration decreases by half. Hence rate decreases.

4.(a): When the concentration of NO2 is doubled, the rate of the reaction increases by a factor of 4.

(b): When the concentration of both NO2 and Cl2 are tripled, the rate of reaction would increase by a factor of 27.

(c):  When the concentration of Cl2 is halved, then the reaction rate would decrease by a factor of 2.
