Local blood flow - Blood flow through the capillary bed depends on body’s requirements and is under the control of nerve and hormone signals. For instance, after a large meal the blood flow is diverted to the stomach by vasodilation of blood vessels supplying to the digestive system while there is vasoconstriction of other blood vessels. Another example- in exercise the blood is diverted to the skeletal muscles through vasodilation of blood vessels supplying to skeletal muscles while the blood flow to the digestive system is decreased through vasoconstriction of the blood vessels of the digestive system.
