Question

Initially the value of Q has increased or decreased with the addition of KSCN or Fe(NO_3)_3? To cause the equilibrium to shift to the left, was there an increase or decrease in concentration of Fe^3 + due to the addition of OH? For the reaction system below, a state of equilibrium has been achieved stress had been placed on the system which resulted in a shift in the position of equilibrium. What stress had been imposed? heat + CuCl_2 (s) + 2NH_3 (g) Cu(NH_3)_2^2 + (aq) + 2Cl^- (aq) More of the solid formed. Was the system temperature increased or decreased? A large amount of bubbles formed. Was the amount of chloride ion increased or decreased? The solid dissolved. Was it due to the removal or addition of ammonia? If the mixture got warn, then was the concentration of NH_3 or Cl^- increase?

Explanation / Answer

we know that

according to Le Chatlier principle

if there is change is applied to the equilibrium

then the equilibrium will shift in a direction which minimises the change

a)

consider the given reaction

heat + CuCl2 (s) + 2 NH3 (g) ---> Cu(NH3)2+2 + 2 Cl-

given

more solid ( CuCl2) is formed

now

if temperature is increased , that is more heat is added

according to Le Chatlier principle

the equilibrium will shift in a direction to reduce the heat

so it will move towards the products

in this case , more solid is used

So in the contrary

if the temperature is decreased ,

the equilibrium will shift in a direction to produced more heat

as a result

more of the solid will be formed

So

the answer is temperature is decreased

b)

large amount of bubbles formed

this is because of the formation of NH3 gas

so

the target is to get more NH3 gas

To get this result, amount of Cl- ions should be increased

because

according to Le Chatlier principle

the equilibrium will shift in a direction to reduce the Cl- ions,

So Cl- ions will be utilized and NH3 will be formed

So

the answer is amount of Chloride ions is increased

C)

similarly

When more NH3 is added

the equilibrium will shift in a direction to reduce the NH3

So the equilibrium will shift towards the products

as a result , the solid will dissolved

So

the answer is addition of ammonia

D)

mixture got warm , it means more heat is produced

it is due to the increase in Cl- concentration

the equilibrium will shift in a direction to reduce the Cl- concentration

So ,it will shift towards the reactants

as a result more heat is produced

So

the answer is increase in Cl- concentration
