Question
Explanation / Answer
1) The intermolecular force of attraction in case of dichloromethane is more than that of methane. This is because in case of dichlorormethane due to the presence of electronegative chlorine molecule there do exist a dipole and diploe- diploe interaction among the molecules makes the dichlorormethane liquid. O the contrary methane is symetrical and is non polar and hence no such interaction is there and hence is a gas.
2) Wtaer rise up in a capillary tube this is because the strong force of adhesion between water and the wall of the tube rather than the force of cohesion among the water molecules.
