Question

In your investigation of human cell undergoing beta oxidation, you across buildup of the fatty acid shown below, which you know was originally 10 long. What enzyme must be absent (mutated, inactivated etc.) in this cell in order to cause the buildup of the above fatty acid above When you add the enzyme identified in (a) to the cell investigated, the fatty acid become the one below. Use this fatty acid below to answer b-f How many acetyl coAs will be made from this molecule? How many FADH_2 molecules will be made during the Beta oxidation of this molecule How many NADH molecules will be made during beta oxidation of this molecules How many NADP^+ molecules will be made during beta oxidation of this molecules

Explanation / Answer

b) As there are total 12 carbons in the given fatty acid

so it will undergo 5 beta oxidaiton and will gie 6 acetyl coA molecules

c) From each beta oxidation = 1 FADH2 is produced so from 5 beta oxidation = 5 FADH2

each acetyl CoA yields = 1 FADH2

So 6 acetyl will yield = 6 FADH2

Total = 5+ 6= 11

d) Each beta oxidation yields = 1 NADH2so from 5 beta oxidation = 5 NADH2

each acetyl CoA yields = 3 FADH2

So 6 acetyl will yield = 18 FADH2

Total = 5+ 18= 23

e) Each NADH2 will give NADH+
