Question
Please answer this question .. its petroleum engineering ( Drilling ) 16. If your surface pumps have 4000psi available pump pressure, what size nozzles (32nds of inch) would you use in a bit to satisfy the Maximum Hydraulic Horsepower Theory? The bit you have will accept 5 nozzles. You plan to pump 12ppg fluid at 600gpm. What is the fluid velocity (ft/sec exiting the nozzles? 17. What is the jet velocity (velocity of fluid exiting the nozzles) in your answer to question#16 if you are pumping at S00gpm?
Explanation / Answer
16. first have to understand that the question is the fluid velocity would exist on the nozzles.
Data shows us there are 5 nozzles of 32 inches each one so the result which arrived to us we must to divide it by 5.
We have 4000psi which need to introduce 12ppg each time into by the nozzles a velocity at 600gpm still get finish.
4000/5= 800psi for each nozzle
Now convert the psi to ppg :
800/12=66.67ppg
The inicial velociy is 600gpm to acept the teory, so we need to comparate the ppg for gpm:
66.67/600=0.11 what means a porcentage of a minute , now we have to multiply on 60 ( 1 minute= 60 seconds)
0.11*60=6.67
The result is 6.67ft/sec
17.Use the same operatings:
400/5=800
800/12=66.67
500/66.67=0.1334
0.1334*60=8.004
