TAMBORA VOLCANO:

Mount Tambora is the highest mountain located on SUMBAWA ISLAND, INDONESIA. Tambora volcano was erupted on April 10 1815 which is considered as the most destructive explosion on earth in the past 10,000 years. The eruption happened back then confirmed 7 VEI (VOLCANIC EXPLOSIVITY INDEX). Mount Tambora was formed by the active subduction zone beneath it.

Mount Tambora is an ACTIVE STRATOVOLCANO also known as COMPOSITE VOLCANO. It is ACTIVE type because it is erupted within the last 10,000 years and it is DORMANT because even though mount Tambora is active, but it is currently not erupting.

With more than 13,000 feet high ash poured down the mountains flanks and the volcano erupted 60 cubic kilometers of magma which burned surrounding grasslands and forests making it as largest volcanic eruption in recorded history. The outburst of volcano was heard 1700 miles away

Tambora volcano left a lasting effect on the human life directly and indirectly. Because almost 10,000 people were killed directly during the series of eruptions, where as some 70,000 people were slowly killed from starvation and diseases which are the result of Volcanic activity.

The eruptions of Tambora also affected the climate worldwide due to the ash been thrown away into the atmosphere which resulted in the reduction of global temperatures over the next year. And the year 1816 is very well known as THE YEAR WITHOUT A SUMMER.
