Explanation / Answer

A . Evaluate how well Madison delivers bad news?

Ans : Madison was very straight and honest about why she will be unable to attend the event. It was presented in a very plaintiff manner as there was no sign of heartfelt regret over what she was doing to Bianca Genova. Obviously Madison talks about her stand of situation but she is unable to recognize that her cancellation of the talk might flush out the hard work put in by Bianca. Moreover, Madison had been suffering from health issues for the past few months. If she would have revealed this before, Bianca would not have been completely dependent on her. Rather she would have kept substitutes in hand. Moreover if Madison wanted to be by her husband’s side then she should have mailed Bianca soon after her father-in-law’s death.

B. Rewrite Madison’s note to more effectively deliver bad news.

Ans:

Dear Bianca,

I am extremely sorry to inform you that I cannot attend the talk at the September 4 networking event. My health is not keeping well for the past few months and my recovery seems to be slow. I have been advised by my doctor to refrain from travelling as it might have adverse consequences on my health. Moreover, my father-in-law past away two weeks back. I need to be by my husband’s side as he has been devastated with this news. Hopefully you will understand my situation. I will return the advance of $2000 that you had given.

Regards,

Madison.

C. Assume the role of Samantha and write a message to members that delivers the bad news and also helps promote the networking event in the absence of Madison as a speaker.

Ans:

Respected Sir,

I regret to inform that Madison Avery will be unable to attend the September 4 networking issues due to personal reasons. On her behalf, we will call upon another renowed author and speaker whose name will be disclosed on the day of the event. Hope that you will excuse the last minute change in the event plan.

If  you feel that any sort of discomfort over the issue, we will gladly repay the advance forwarded by you.

Regards,

Samantha.
