Question

A convex spherical mirror, whose focal length has a magnitude of 15.4 cm, is to form an image 12.0 cm behind the mirror. (a) Where should the object be placed?
cm in front of the mirror

(b) What is the magnification of the mirror?

Explanation / Answer

apply for concave mirror 1/f = 1/u + 1/v

u = object distance,

v= image distance

and f = focal length = 15.4

so 1/u = 1/f -1/v

u = vf/(v-f)

u = 15.4* 12/(15.4+12)

u = 6.744 cm
------------------------------

magnification m = -v/u = 12/6.744 = 1.77
