Question

I have two questions:

1. A long, straight wire carrying a current of 353 A is placed in a uniform magnetic field that has a magnitude of 7.98 × 10-3 T. The wire is perpendicular to the field. Find a point in space where the net magnetic field is zero. Locate this point by specifying its perpendicular distance from the wire.

The drawing shows two perpendicular, long, straight wires, both of which lie in the plane of the paper. The current in each of the wires is I = 4.5 A. In the drawing dH = 0.15 m anddV = 0.38 m. Find the magnitudes of the net magnetic fields at points A and B.

Explanation / Answer

1)

current , I = 353 A

magnetic field , B = 7.98 *10^-3 T

for the net field to be zero

the magnetic field due to wire must be same magnitude and oposite direction

magnetic field due to wire is given as B = u0*I/(2 * pi *d)

7.98 *10^-3 = 4pi *10^-7 * 353 /( 2 * pi * d)

d = 8.849 *10^-3 m

the distance from the wire is 8.849 *10^-3 m
