I just posted this question and it was answered wrong... please HELP!!

In the circuit shown in the figure below(Figure 1) , the applied potential across ab is 24.0V .

Part A: Calculate the charge on a 3.00?F capacitor.

Part B: Calculate the charge on a 5.00?F capacitor.

Part C: Calculate the charge on a 6.00?F capacitor.

Part D: Calculate the potential difference across a 3.00?F capacitor.

Part E: Calculate the potential difference across a 5.00?F capacitor.

Part F: Calculate the potential difference across a 6.00?F capacitor.

a 3.00 uF 5.00 6.00 uF

Explanation / Answer

Here ,

as 5 uF and 3 uF are in parallel ,

Cp = 5 + 3

Cp = 8 uF

Now, 6 uF and Cp in series ,

1/Ceq = 1/8 + 1/6

Ceq = 3.43 uF

A)

charge on 3 uF , Q = 3 * 3.43 * 24/(3 + 5)

charge on 3 uF , Q = 30.9 uC

B)

charge on 5 uF , Q = 5 * 3.43 * 24/(3 + 5)

charge on 3 uF , Q = 51.4 uC

C)

charge on 6 uF = 3.43 * 24

charge on 6 uF = 82.32 uC

D)

V(3) = V(5) = Q/C

V(3) = V(5) = 51.4/5

V(3) = V(5) = 10.3 V

E)
V(3) = V(5) = Q/C

V(3) = V(5) = 51.4/5

V(3) = V(5) = 10.3 V

F)

V(6) = 24 - 10.3 = 13.7 V

potential across 6 uF is 13.7 V
