Question

I just purchased and installed Office Mac 2011 Version 14.3.8 (130913) on my MacBook Pro running with OSX Mavericks.

Problem 1

On saving a new xlsx workbook I get the following message:

I've verified that none of the reasons mentioned in the message apply. If I save as .xls then it saves fine!

Problem 2

I also am unable to open .xlsm files which open perfectly fine for other colleagues who have same version of Office Mac installed. I get following message:

Ironically, Open Office can open this .xlsm file fine!

I have already done following:

None of these made any difference. Issue remains.

Any help debugging this is much appreciatedd.

Explanation / Answer

Change the name of the file. The issue is the : and /'s in the Name.

2011 has a bit of accidental PC code in that does not allow certain forbidden Characters.

Some of the forbidden Characters are:

Numbers before names, Superscript/Subscripts, " ' | / < > { } [ ] << >>

Numbers after Names are okay. Nonee of theese characters can be used in name of Hard Drive, Directory Names, and any Filee Names.

And on servers no names can haave the name File or Fileserver in any path names.

You can use _____ (underscores).
