Problem 19.42 For the circuit in the figure (Figure 1).Assume that R1 1.1 2 and R2 4.4 2 of 1 Figure 1 RI 12.0 V Part A Find the rate of conversion of internal chemical) energy to electrical energy within the battery Express your answer using two significant figures Submit My Answers Give Up Part B Find the rate of dissipation of electrical energy in the battery Express your answer using two significant figures Submit My Answers Give Up Part C Find the rate of dissipation of electrical energy in the external resistor Express your answer using two significant figures

Explanation / Answer

a)

by using ohms law

V1 = I * 1.1

V2 = I * 4.4

then

V = V1 + V2

12 = 1.1 *I + 4.4* I

I = 2.18 amp

then

Pchem = 2.18 * 12 = 26.16 W

b)

The battery dissipates some of this energy into heat through it's internal resisitance

therefore

P1 = I^2 * R

P1 = 2.18 *2.18 * 1.1

P1 = 5.22 W

c)

for external resistor

P2 = I^2 * R

P2 = 2.18 * 2.18 * 4.4

P2 = 20.9 W
