Question

For the circuit to the right, with R_1 = 100ohm, R_2 = 200ohm, and R_3 = 300ohm, and DeltaV_0 = 10V. (a)What is the equivalent resistance between points a and b? (b)What is the current drawn by the circuit? (c)What is the voltage drop across R_1? 12V battery is connected to two parallel combinations of resistors. The two parallel combinations are connected in series. The first parallel combination. the one at the top of the page, is made up of a 200ohm. 300ohm, and a 500ohm resistor. The second combination is made up of three 300ohm resistors The two parallel combinations are connected in series with the battery. (a)Compute the equivalent resistance. R_eq, of the circuit. (b) Compute the current drawn by the circuit. (c) Compute the power dissipated by the 200ohm resistor.

Explanation / Answer

for Ist circuit

a) Equivalent resistance =   1/2* (100 + 200)

                                          = 150 ohm

b)   current drawn by circuit = 10/150

                                                = 0.0666 A

c)   voltage drop =   (10/300) * 100

                              =    3.333 V

For 2 nd Circuit

a) Equivalent resistance =    96.774 + 100

                                         = 196.774 ohm

b)   current drawn = 12/196.774

                                =   0.06098 A

c)    power dissipated = (5.9016 * 5.9016)/200

                                     = 0.1741 W
