Question

In (Figure 1) , the circuit has been completed for several minutes. Suppose that E = 83 V .

a) Calculate the magnitude of the current through the 525 ? resistor.

b) Calculate the magnitude of the current through the 100 ? resistor in the bottom branch of the circuit.

c) Calculate the magnitude of the current through the 300 ? resistor.

d) Calculate the magnitude of the current through the 1500 ? resistor.

e) Calculate the magnitude of charge on the 50 ?F capacitor plate.

f) Calculate the magnitude of charge on the 100 ?F capacitor plate.

525 100 1500 300 100

Explanation / Answer

a)

I = 83/525+1500+100 = 0.04A

b)

Since the left most 100 ohm is in series with capacitor ie does noe allow current hence I=0

c)

I300 = 0 as it is in series with capacitor

d)

I = 83/525+1500+100 = 0.04A

e)

q =CV = 50x10-6 x 83 =4.15x10-3 C = 4.15 mF = 4150C

f)

q =CV =0.04A X 1500 x 50F =292550F = 2.93mF
