Question
Consider the circuit diagrammed at the right which has three different bulbs connected, each in its own loop, to a battery. In the circuit the oval bulb is brightest, the rectangular bulb second and the circular bulb is dimmest. What can you say about the current in each bulb compared to the current through the battery? What is your evidence/reasoning for this contention? What can you say about the potential difference across each bulb compared to the potential difference across the battery? What is your evidence/reasoning for this contention?Explanation / Answer
1) Current in the oval bulb is maximum and be i1 , current in rectangular be i2 and ciruclar be i3 and now,
i1> i2 > i3 and also
i1 + i2 + i3 = I ( total current)
Since P = i2 x R
P is directly protional to luminious intensity therefore higher the current greater is the luminousity.
2) If the potential difference across the battery is V,
Then the potential difference across each bulb is also V, since it doesnt divide at branches.
