From the given figure we can say that

R2 and 20ohm are in series than the total resistance is given by

Req1 =R2+20ohm =7+20=27ohm

Now Req1 and R2 and R1 are in parallel than the equivalent resitance is given by

1/Req2 =1/Req1+1/R2+1/R1

           =1/27+1/7+1/16

1/Req2 =0.0370+0.1428+0.0625=0.2423

Req2 =4.127ohm

Now Req2 and R1 are in series than the total equivalent resistance is given by

Req =Req2+R1 =4.127+16 =20.127ohm

Now the total current passing througth the circuit is given by

V =IR

I =V/Req =25V/20.127 =1.242A

We know that R1 and Req2 are in parallel then the voltage remains the same. Therefore the potential difference across the points a and b is V ba=25V
